Uncle Yosef, my mother's brother, was born in 1933, in Bursa, Turkey, to Kadem and Salamon Benardete. He was the youngest in the family. He had two brothers (Mair and Nisim) and five sisters (Roza, Sara, Vito, Korin and Inez).

In 1957, he married Aunt Leyla (Lusi) Shay in Bursa. They had three children: Shlomo (he died three months after birth), Yakup (Yaakov) and Kety.

Uncle Yosef, Aunt Leyla and the children lived together in the same house with Grandma Kadem Benardete, in Altıparmak Street in Bursa. Uncle Yosef had a refreshments kiosk adjacent to the house.
  

Uncle Yosef widowed in 1990.

Some years after the death of Aunt Leyla, he married Mrs Dora Kıymaz.

Uncle Yosef passed away in Istanbul, on October 14, 2005 (the day after Yom Kippur).
